Restore before you uninstall
Open PrivyDock → Settings → Prepare to uninstall. That runs one last restore and tells you when it's safe to delete the app.
If PrivyDock is gone, apps aren't
Each hidden app ships with a small RECOVERY.md note that tells you how to rename it back. You won't lose access even if PrivyDock disappears.

What exactly does PrivyDock do to my apps?
It moves each chosen app from /Applications into a private folder in your own Library, and tweaks the file extension so macOS stops indexing it in the Dock, Launchpad, and Spotlight. When you want the app back, PrivyDock moves it back — unchanged.
Is this encryption?
No. PrivyDock is for casual privacy — getting apps out of sight during screen shares, lending, or travel. If you need hardened security for sensitive data, use FileVault and a dedicated secure tool.
What happens if I delete PrivyDock without restoring my apps?
Your apps aren't lost. Each one has a small RECOVERY.md file next to it in your Library folder. Follow the two-line instruction inside and every app comes back. PrivyDock was designed so you can always recover even if the app is gone.
Can it hide Apple's built-in apps like Notes or Mail?
Partially. Apple protects system apps so they can't be moved, but PrivyDock can soft-hide them from the Dock and Launchpad while the app is running. Quit PrivyDock and they reappear.
Does it work with App Store apps?
Yes. Some App Store apps do integrity checks before updating — for those, we recommend restoring the app before letting the App Store update it, then hiding it again after.
Will PrivyDock's updates be automatic?
Yes. PrivyDock uses Sparkle (the standard Mac update framework). Updates are signed, optional, and never forced.
